Message: Here's a great article I found at www.northwestnavigator.com: -- West Sound Catering and the Naval Base Kitsap, Bangor Navy Exchange hosted a special “Mom and Me” Spring fashion show and breakfast at Bangor Plaza, April 26, to celebrate the Month of the Military child. Throughout the month of April, Navy installations all around the world plan special events to celebrate the military child including parades and picnics to honor and recognize service members’ families, especially their children, for the unique sacrifices and challenges that are a part of being a military family. “As we celebrate the Month of the Military Child, we put this event together to honor service member’s children,” said Dale Barnes, Navy Exchange (NEX) fashion show coordinator. “The NEX is known as the Navy’s family story and today military family members will be displaying samples of our spring collection as they stroll down the catwalk.” The event began with a special breakfast buffet featuring pancakes, eggs, seasonal fruit and a variety of beverages. Many of the volunteer models were military spouses and children. According to Maria Tarver, catering manager, the fashion show was a way to help the NEX show off their new clothing line and allow the children to get a chance to model for fun. “This is the first time we ever had an event like this and I would like to thank the Navy Exchange for providing clothing and make up for all of our models,” said Tarver. “This is a really exciting activity for most of the children to enjoy and their parents will love watching the fashion show.” For one Sailor, the fashion show was a spectacular event for his children to participate in. “My son and daughter were very excited about trying on new clothes and getting a chance to model,” said Chief Gunner’s Mate (SW) Samuel Nick, Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) Everett. “This fashion show is great for parents because I can get an idea of what kind of clothes they like and what to look for when I shop for them.” For Storekeeper 2nd Class (AW) Kevin Smith, Construction Battalion Mobile Unit (CBMU) 303, the event was a very fun experience for his wife and child. “My wife loves watching Top Model and Project Runway and today she gets to try out modeling herself,” said Smith. “It was great being able to take photos of my wife and child modeling because it means so much to them.” The next event will be a Mother’s Day Brunch May 11 at the Bangor Plaza.
