Message: Here's a great article I found at www.northwestnavigator.com: -- “Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it,” certainly applies to a request NAS Whidbey Command Master Chief Francis Bagarella made to the Puget Sound USO last year. At a USO Senior Enlisted Advisory Council meeting held last summer, Bagarella mentioned the need for more on-base internet connections to serve air station single Sailors. The result was the Internet Café, a popular section of Liberty NW Center that began operations in November. Formal recognition of Ford Smith, Whidbey Island resident and entrepreneur whose generous contribution made the whole project possible, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 16. The new USO Mobile Canteen will also make an appearance as part of its maiden voyage to the North Sound. “The young men and women of our military do so much for our nation to keep it safe for my family and our future. This was one way I could say ‘Thanks,’” said Smith. “I deeply appreciate the chance to help keep them connected with their friends and family through the Internet Café.” “I come here for the computers,” said Airman Ben Bejar, VAQ-130, “Its brand new equipment and way quicker. Everything is a lot newer and fresher, plus it’s more convenient for those of us in the barracks.” The USO in the Puget Sound is dedicated to providing a great service to those who defend our country. The 24 online computers that make up the Internet Café’ also add a few more entertainment and educational features that improve the Sailors’ quality of life. “I’ve been here for two years, and this is the best thing to happen to this base,” said Aviation Electrician’s Mate 3rd Class James Farrant, VAQ-138. Much of the credit for getting this project up and running goes to MWR managers Russ Gale and Sherry Yates who coordinated the new section of the Liberty NW Center from start to finish once the Under Secretary of the Navy approved the joint project. “It’s really great to have such a modern, well-used facility like the Liberty Center for our single Sailors,” said Yates. She added that they see about 300 Sailors in the center every day. http://www.northwestnavigator.com/index.php/navigator/regionalnews/internet_cafe_ribbon_cutting_marks_partnership_with_uso/
