Message: Here's a great article I found at www.northwestnavigator.com: -- The Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) Jackson Park Youth and Teen Center is running their ‘Up, Down All Around’ Youth Summer Camp for school age children through Aug. 29. The summer camp is offered to children of service members, DoD and civilian contractors, ages 6 to 12. “I like summer camp,” said Cody Fenton, 7, summer camp participant. “We get to go swimming and play on the Slip-and-Slide. It’s a lot of fun.” Fees are based on family household income ranging from $56-117 per child, per week. “It’s fun being with all my friends,” said Miracle Glass, 12, summer camp participant. “I like all the field trips we go on. If I could give advice to other children, it would be they should come here if they want to spend time with other children and make new friends.” While children are at the summer camp, they can enjoy a variety of activities including, field trips, guest speakers, games, art and social time with other children. “Summer camp is cool and we have fun all the time,” said Brittany Rohrer, 7, summer camp participant. “My favorite part is doing art.” A few of the upcoming field trips include Tacoma Rainier’s minor league baseball game, weekly trips to the base swimming pool, bowling ally and movie theater and trips to Camp McKean and Fort Warden State Park. “The children get to go on lots of field trips every week,” said Sarah Apparius, Jackson Park Youth and Teen Center staff. “I think this is important for them because it keeps them out of the house and out of trouble. I think it’s also important for the parents because it’s a place for their children to go while they are at work and they are being taken care of.” Kitsap Kids Dentistry, Country Pigs (performing group), NBK Fire Department with Sparky the fire dog mascot will visit the children at the Jackson Park Youth and Teen Center. “Summer camp, so far, has been awesome,” said Amber McMahon, Jackson Park Youth and Teen Center staff. “The children have been learning new things every day.
