Message: Here's a great article I found at www.northwestnavigator.com: -- Legend Harley Buell, Wash., motorcycle dealership presented a check for $500 to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) Oct. 1. The donation will be used to assist Sailors and Marines, active, retired and their family members to achieve financial self-sufficiency and find solutions to emergency needs. “This is the third year that we have made a contribution to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. It normally comes in the latter part of September, or the first part of October,” said John Towers, marketing manager and 20-year Navy veteran. “We live in a veteran’s community all the way from Port Orchard to the end of the peninsula, and the Navy’s been around for many, many years. If you weren’t in the military, or if you were a civilian working on a base, you would know that all of your neighbors, in one way or another are attached to the military.” Missile Technician 1st Class (SS) Eric Knecht, USS Pennsylvania (SSBN 735) (Blue) said that the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society has benefited Sailors for a long time. “I know of guys at commands that I’ve been at that have needed NMCRS for various issues and they were always willing to help,” said Knecht. “This definitely shows the civilian community’s support of the military.” The mission of NMCRS is to provide in partnership with the Navy and Marine Corps, financial, educational, and other assistance to active-duty members of the naval services, their eligible family members, and survivors when in need. “They have been very supportive of us over the years,” said Kathy Phillips, Director of NMCRS at the Naval Base Kitsap, Bangor office. “They appreciate the concerns that our service members have financially; this donation will go far in helping our service members.” This donation, along with countless others, will go far to provide interest-free loans, need-based scholarships, budget counseling services, thrift shops, food lockers, and visiting nurses. “We hope that Sailors and Marines recognize that we are here to serve as a non-profit charity organization, we’ve been doing this for 104 years, we are not going away,” said Phillips. “We are very financially strong; we are the largest and oldest military aid organization around. I love what I do, and I can’t imagine doing anything else but this.” http://www.northwestnavigator.com/index.php/navigator/regionalnews/legend_harley_donates_to_nmcrs/
