Message: Here's a great article I found at www.northwestnavigator.com: -- Navy Band Northwest held a concert at Naval Undersea Museum Keyport Jack Murdock Auditorium Nov. 18. More than 300 people attended the concert themed “Honor of those who serve and protect.” The scores put emphasis on the vocalizations of those musicians who sang. “Our concert titled ‘With Voices Raised’ is for the general public,” said Musician 3rd Class Drew Williams, Navy Band Northwest. “This concert featured more singing. When you go to a military band concert you expect to hear horns, we brought something different in addition to some of the vocalizations we do all the time. It was almost as though the band was backing up the singers this time.” “There is so much variety in this show and I think that’s one reason Navy Band Northwest stand out,” Williams added. “It’s the variety and the ability to know what the public wants and then being able to facilitate that through music.” According to Joyce James, the concert was moving and well done. “It was so wonderful, patriotic and inspiring to me,” said James, concert attendee. “I enjoyed the concert very much. They did really well.” The concert consisted of 13 scores, each orchestrated professionally and each evoking emotion among those watching and listening. “I liked it all so much,” said Bev Wendell, concert attendee. “The vocalist had an unbelievable voice, but they were all very fantastic. I liked everything played; there was nothing performed here that was less than first class… a very touching experience. A very good performance and I hope they keep up the good work. I’ll be back again and again.” Even for those who put on the performance, there is a sense of satisfaction. “Just being able to come out here and perform a concert before the public gives a different kind of importance to our job,” said Williams. “Not only do we fulfill the military side of our occupation, which includes performing for changes of command, but this is a way of satisfying the public. That’s why I enjoy this concert so much.” The Navy Band Northwest performs throughout the region at a variety of locations such as ceremonies, high schools and other functions. http://www.northwestnavigator.com/index.php/navigator/regionalnews/navy_band_performs_with_voices_raised/
