Message: Here's a great article I found at www.northwestnavigator.com: -- The Samuel Adams brewery on board Naval Base Kitsap, Bremerton hosted its 6th annual Oktoberfest, Sept. 24. Samuel Adams provides themed dining nights once a month to all DOD, military, and military spouses who wish to attend. “Oktoberfest is a great event,” said Lauren Hight a waitress at Sam Adams. “It really gives people a great opportunity to just relax and have a good time. It’s a calm fun atmosphere with great food. You can’t beat the company and it is a good night here at Sam Adams and I think those who attend will agree.” “This is one of the events people look forward to all year,” said Herman McHenry manager at Samuel Adams. “This is the 6th year running and we have people who come every year.” Oktoberfest attendees received entertainment, games, prizes as well as access to a buffet including but not limited to bratwurst with sauerkraut, apple strudel, sauerbraten, braised red cabbage and tossed salad. “This is my third year coming to Oktoberfest here at Sam Adams,” said Mark Thresher a NAVFAC employee. “It has become a tradition. I mean excellent food, bar maids and the chicken dance… that just screams good time to me.” Oktoberfest is a 12-day festival originally held to honor the marriage of King Ludwig I and Therese of Bavaria in 1810. The original festival had horse races and events so the towns’ people could participate in the event, afterword becoming an annual event originally in Germany, but now in countries and cities all around the world.
