Message: Here's a great article I found at www.northwestnavigator.com: -- Sailors from Naval Base Kitsap volunteered Jan. 28 for the quarterly Adopt-a-Highway clean up. The 18 Sailors picked up trash along side of the Gorst section on Highway three from 8 to 11 a.m. “We’re just doing our part to preserve the highways and make they safe for drivers,” said Religious Program Specialist 2nd Class Patrick McCormick. “It’s my duty to volunteer for projects like this.” Washington State’s Adopt-A-Highway Program is an anti-litter and roadside enhancement campaign intended to promote pride and local ownership in the state. “I think people throwing their trash on the highway is a real problem in Washington, so we’re here to help,” said Master at Arms 3rd Class Mary Blackburn. “It makes me feel great to get out and help the community.” The volunteers were provided gloves, reflective vests, garbage bags and transportation to the sight. In return for their efforts the Department of Transportation has posted a sign at the beginning of the Gorst section of interstate three identifying Naval Base Kitsap as the adopting group. http://www.northwestnavigator.com/index.php/navigator/regionalnews/sailors_clean_up_the_highway/
