Naval Station Everett Sailors and civilians met with Congressman Rick Larsen, of Washington State’s 2nd district, and Congressman Gene Taylor, of Mississippi’s 4th district, during a tour of the station March 18.
Larsen invited Taylor to tour the station because of their positions on the House Armed Services Committee, as well as the Sea Power and Expeditionary Forces Sub-Committee, of which Taylor sits on as Chairman. The responsibility of this Committee is to provide funding and oversight to the Department of Defense.

The Everett home ported guided-missile frigate USS Ingraham (FFG 61) recently concluded a mid-deployment Middle East port visit. The seven-day visit enabled Ingraham Sailors to get off the ship and participate in leisure activities such as sand dune boarding, sand dune off-roading, camel riding, and shopping in the world’s largest mall.

Sailors, civilians, and families gathered together for a night of good food and great laughs for the Comics on Duty show held in the Grand Vista Ballroom on board Naval Station (NAVSTA) Everett, Feb. 29.
The comedians performing in this Comics on Duty Northwest Tour were Steve Bills, John Bizarre, Kira Soltanovich, and Tom Foss, all of whom have been making Sailors, Soldiers, Airman, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen laugh, and sometimes cry, with their antics, stories, and knock-knock jokes for years.

The crew of USS Momsen (DDG 92) recently celebrated African American History Month with a collection of speeches and vocal dedications.
The event commenced with the National Anthem, sung by Gunner’s Mate Seaman Nakayla Rhone. Yeoman 1st Class (AW) Moana Gonzalez then highlighted the achievements of Dr. Carter Woodson, who is also known as the “father of Black History Month”.

Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light (HSL) 43, Det. 7, the “Battle Cats”, bid farewell to their commanding officer, Cmdr. Matthew Coughlin, Feb. 19, as he departed USS Ingraham (FFG 61) concluding a five-day visit.
HSL-43, Det. 7 is deployed with Ingraham and is conducting Interaction Patrols (IPATS) with Coalition forces in the North Arabian Gulf to ensure safe commercial shipping and fishing in Iraqi territorial waters.

This event is a part of Military Saves Week, Feb. 25 through March, which encourages military families to save money every month and to convince leaders and organizations to be aggressive in promoting automatic savings.

The Everett homeported destroyer USS Shoup (DDG 86) has successfully completed a major material readiness inspection by the Navy’s Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) team. The inspection took place earlier this month in San Diego, Calif. involved one day of underway testing followed by four days in port. The assessment is conducted every five years for all Navy ships. This is Shoup’s first INSURV since commissioning in 2002.

The presentation began with Information Systems Technician 3rd Class Sabrina Wade singing the black national anthem, poetry readings, and a performance by the Total Experience Gospel Choir from the Oneness Christian Center in Seattle.
