Everett gets self-service postal kiosk

A new postal kiosk was recently unveiled to military and civilian employees stationed on board Naval Station Everett. This new self-service postal service kiosk, provided by Fleet and Industrial Supply Center, Puget Sound, is located in the MWR Commons facility on the station. The kiosk will give customers self-service access to United States Postal Service (USPS) postage, mailing, and shipping services that have never been available on this installation. By accessing the easy-to-use touch-screen, much the same as an ATM without a service fee, customers can now initiate and process all manner of postal transactions, and pay for them all simply by swiping their credit or pin-less debit card through the card reader.

RCC Sailors spread Christmas cheer

Sailors from Navy Region Northwest, Reserve Component Command (NRNW RCC) delivered 1,726 pounds of food to the Everett Food Bank, Dec 23, 2008 in an effort to contribute to those who may be in need during the holiday season. Kathleen McGannon Dale, the Food Bank’s Outreach Manager for Basic Needs Services, smiled widely as the carts piled high with non-perishables roll past her into the food bank warehouse. “Only about 10 percent of our donations are this large,” said Dale. “It’s really wonderful. It’s going to touch a lot a people.” The Everett Food Bank is the Snohomish County Distribution Center, providing for the 19 food banks around the county. Families from surrounding communities can come to the food banks once a month to receive a nine-meal box. In the month if November and December they receive a second box with a holiday meal. Aviators conduct carrier landings

For the first time since 2004, USS Abraham Lincoln’s (CVN 72) flight deck served as a training ground for student pilots flying the Navy’s advanced jet training aircraft, the T-45 Goshawk, Dec. 10-13. Student pilots assigned to Carrier Training Wing (CTW) 1 Training Squadrons (VT) 7 and 9, based in Meridian, Miss., and CTW 2 squadrons VT-21 and VT-22, based in Kingsville, Texas, flew aboard Dec. 10 for four days of initial carrier qualifications off the coast of southern California. For these new pilots, the arrested landings and catapult launches they completed aboard Lincoln are the culmination of many months of intense flight training. “This is the first jet they’ve flown, and it’s their first time on a carrier,” said Lt. Cmdr. Mark Schadt, Chief of Naval Air Training’s (CNATRA) senior landing signal officer (LSO). “They’ve spent the last 10 months learning to fly the T-45 and before that they flew T-34s (a propeller driven trainer) for up to 10 months. This is one of the last things they’ll have to do before they go to a Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) and learn to fly their assigned aircraft.”
