World War II Sailors ‘adopt’ Momsen

The sun peaked out, if only for a few prized moments, last Saturday when Sailors from NAVSTA Everett’s newest ship USS Momsen (DDG 92) were welcomed to the Pacific Northwest and officially “adopted” by the North Pacific Chapter of the Destroyers Escort Sailors Association (NORPAC DESA).

Trash disposal rooms aboard Lincoln help put environment first

It’s debatable who has the “dirtiest” job aboard USS Abraham Lincoln. Hull Technicians, Boatswain’s Mates, and flight deck personnel are high on the list, but A Division’s Shop EA08, or Outside Repair, has to be at the top. Their 30 TAD and permanent personnel are the front line of defense in Lincoln’s war on garbage.

Lincoln Sailors head off shore in search of trophy fish

Liberty in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii is filled with many opportunities, and thanks to USS Abraham Lincoln’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) ofice, most of those opportunities are available at discounted prices. One such recreational opportunity that would normally be out of reach for most Sailors is Hawaii’s world-renowned deep sea fishing.

Naval Hospital Bremerton recently selected its Civilians of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2004. Anthony F. Diaz was selected as the Civilian of the Quarter, Rosemarie N. Malpaya was selected as the Contractor of the Quarter, and Ron Roth was selected as the Senior Civilian of the Quarter.

Sailors pay respect while manning rails in Pearl Harbor

As USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) made its way into Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, last Friday, Sailors took part in what has become one of the most time-honored traditions for a ship and its crew, the rendering of honors to the USS Arizona (BB 39). Every U.S. Navy, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine vessel entering Pearl Harbor participates in the solemn tradition to remember the 2,390 lives lost during the attack on Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941.

Ford returns after five-month deployment

Friday, Nov. 5, USS Ford (FFG 54) returned to Naval Station Everett after spending more than five months deployed with the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) Strike Group. During deployment, the Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided missile frigate, took part in exercises Northern Edge 2004, Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC), and Joint Air-Sea (JASEX). “Our duties mainly focused on patrol of the Western Pacific, Sea of Japan, and South China Sea,” said Ford’s Commanding Officer, Cmdr. David Schnell. “It was a great deployment. We did get extended for a month, but the crew took it in stride. As a consolation, we ended up getting a port visit to Australia.”

His name is Master at Arms 1st Class Rommel Cortezano, security training department leading petty officer, and self defense is his specialty. He’s currently offering a class teaching the basics of self-defense every Monday and Wednesday night, from 5 to 6:15 p.m., in The Commons multi-purpose room for military ID card holders.
