Aquasox show appreciation for military

Military members and dependants teamed-up with members of the Everett community for military appreciation night at the Everett Aquasox Memorial Stadium in Everett, Aug. 20.
The Everett Aquasox played and defeated the Tri-City Dust Devils, 5-2.
The NAVSTA Everett color guard presented colors for the opening ceremony and during the singing of the national anthem.
“The annual military appreciation game is meant to properly honor and represent the military men and women that serve in our community,” said Tom Backemeyer, Aquasox executive vice president. “We wanted to make this military night a celebration for the whole Everett community, and pay appropriate tribute to our service members.”
All military personnel were offered discount tickets, and had an opportunity to enjoy a barbeque, games and a concert out in the concourse.
“My daddy was in the Marine Corps,” said Sara Stokes (6) of Lake Stevens, Wash. “My family likes to come to baseball games, and tonight is special because it thanks people like my daddy for fighting for our freedom!”
The evening concluded with a fireworks display and the singing of ‘God Bless America’.
“I really enjoyed the fireworks!” said Lt.j.g. Todd Beatty, NAVSTA assistant operations officer.
“It is great to see local businesses support the military with events like this,” he added.
