Don’t miss annual RAO seminar
On Saturday, May 21, retirees across Navy Region Northwest are invited to attend the annual Retired Activities Seminar, hosted again by the NAVSTA Everett Retired Activities Office (RAO) and the Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC).
“This is a very important and valuable annual event for retirees and their surviving spouses,” said Carl Rankin, director of the RAO located in the Fleet and Family Support Center Building at Smokey Point. “We strongly encourage all uniformed personnel and their surviving spouses to make the time to come to this seminar.”
The half-day seminar will include a formal presentation by various agencies and organizations, along with a wide variety of booths and information tables catered to the retired military community in the greater Puget Sound. Planned booths may include the Retired Officers Association (TROA), DFAS, the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, the Social Security Administration and other groups or agencies.
The free event, which is expected to draw dozens of retirees and their family members, is a forum for advice on health care issues, social security, personal affairs, and legislation affecting the uniformed and retired military community. In previous years, representatives from DFAS, the National RAO, medical providers, government agency representatives and other senior resource groups were on hand to answer questions, provide contact numbers, and make referrals for myriad quality-of-life issues for retirees.
Starting at 8 a.m., guests will have the opportunity to browse the classrooms and tables in the FFSC building, where representative groups will present their information. At approximately 9 a.m., the formal program will begin in the Totem Rec center multi-purpose room, and will involve a variety of speakers who will offer detailed information about significant issues that retirees and their families should be aware of.
NAVSTA Everett’s seminar will be followed by two similar seminars at North sound and Westsound later this year, in the autumn.
“If you do miss our event, these other seminars will be excellent opportunities for military retirees - as well as surviving spouses - to receive updates on resources and benefits available to them,” Rankin said.
