Everett base hosts ‘Party in the Plaza’

Naval Station Everett hosted their second annual “Party in the Plaza” base picnic, Aug. 19, where guests enjoyed a free barbecue picnic, entertainment and a kid’s fun run.
“It was a great event for all ages. Even my infant loved it,” said Quartermaster Seaman Eula Ledet.
The party began with the kid’s fun run, hosted by Naval Station Everett’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR). The event consisted of a half-mile, mile, and two-mile runs. More than 90 kids ran in the race of their choice, and received a free t-shirt for their participation.
Soon after the first race began, guests started to line up for a barbecue lunch. Galley personnel prepared and served the food that consisted of hamburgers, hotdogs, and macaroni and potato salad. For dessert, there was an ice cream stand with a buffet of toppings to enjoy.
“I appreciate the command going out of their way to put this event together for us. It was a nice gesture,” said Operations Specialist 1st Class (SW) Anthony Battista.
Entertainment for the night started off with a variety of exciting acts presented by students from the School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts, located in Seattle. The students performed daring acts including acrobatics on the static trapeze, aerial fabric, and rolling globes.
“My favorite part of everything was watching the kids doing the acrobatics because it shows me that if you start your kids out right, they can do anything or be anything they want to,” said Ledet.
As another form of entertainment, the comedians of the “Comics on Duty” world tour performed their family friendly show for the audience.
