Naval Station Everett held its annual education fair for Sailors, their spouses and Department of Defense civilians at the Commons, July 21.
Naval College Office invited more than 20 local and national colleges with hundreds of degrees to choose, all with one purpose in
mind – that of helping Sailors to advance or begin their educational goals.
“The purpose of the education fair is to allow current and potential students to meet with college representatives from many different
military-friendly schools,” said Stan Monusko, Navy College Office director. “The goal of the education fair is to allow Sailors to learn
about their options regarding local or distance learning programs, types of degrees, and methods of completion.”
One Sailor was impressed with how the education fair was handled and the eagerness of the college representatives to set not only him
on the right path, but all those who attended the education fair.
“I think the education fair is an outstanding system and I’m looking forward to taking full advantage of it,” said Operations Specialist 1st
Class (SW) Anthony Battista. “They are all out here like gang busters, but they are not out here all for themselves. When the woman I spoke
with saw she was unable to help me, she pointed me in the direction of those who could. They are all here helping each other out and
helping Sailors increase their education, so I’m all for that.”
College representatives set up their tables lining the wall with applications, information packets, and an assortment of other free trinkets.
The education fair is an annual event.
“In the Pacific Northwest we coordinate education fairs week every summer so that schools from throughout the country can send
representatives to Everett, Whidbey Island, Bremerton, and Bangor” said Monusko.
Those who gain the most are those who attend the fairs.
“By gathering many different schools in one place, the visitors can shop around to compare programs, delivery methods, and degree
options in order to find the most appropriate school for their needs,” said Monusko. “By talking with college representatives, they can
also learn how close they actually are and what they need to do to complete a degree.”
“An education fair offers Sailors so many opportunities for them to better themselves inside and outside of their rating for their
future,” said CTR2 Adam Cress.
