Jim Creek Wilderness recreation area breaks ground on 13 new cabins

By next summer, Jim Creek plans to offer 13 new cabins to patrons looking for a rustic wilderness retreat. An informal groundbreaking ceremony was conducted at Jim Creek last Wednesday, Oct. 13, to signify the beginning of work on these new cabins, which will almost triple the amount of cabins available for rent at the wilderness recreation site.
The new, 13-foot by 15-foot log cabins provide sleeping for six, and feature a separate room housing the two rear bunk-style beds.
“We’re locating most of the new cabins in the forested areas behind our RV sites, but four of them will be situated up the roadway toward the Twin Lakes,” said David Hymer, site manager at Jim Creek.
Each cabin will offer a cozy porch swing, picnic table and outdoor BBQ-fire pit for that authentic rustic feel. Campers opting to try cabin camping should be aware that the only available electricity powers a light bulb inside the cabins.
“We suspect patrons will understand that there won’t be the option of plugging in a television and watching your favorite episode of ‘Survivor’ out here,” joked Hymer, “Instead, this is a great way to cuddle up with the family, play some board games and share in the more wholesome lessons of nature.”
Funding for the new cabins came from MWR’s accrued patronage revenue, and visitors to Jim Creek will have an expanded choice of accommodations, ranging from cottage suites, RV sites and a total of 20 available cabins. For more information about Jim Creek, please call (425) 304-5315.
