Lincoln hosts Indonesian visitors

Capt. Patrick D. Hall, commanding officer of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), speaks to Indonesian ambassadors and senior Indonesian military officials in his in port cabin during a visit to the ship. Lincoln and Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 9 are on a scheduled seven-month deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.

Ambassadors and senior military officials from Indonesia visited USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) for a tour and to observe a display of its air power April 23.

Distinguished visitors included U.S. Ambassador Cameron Hume of the U.S. Embassy, Special Advisor to the Minister of Marine Affairs Ambassador Professor Dr. Hasyim Djalal, and Naval Attaché Capt. Kevin Wilson of the U.S. Embassy among several other high-ranking military officials.

Commander, Carrier Strike Group 9 Rear Adm. Scott Van Buskirk, Lincoln’s Commanding Officer Capt. Patrick Hall, and Commander, Carrier Air Wing 2 Capt. John Aquilino met with the visitors and answered questions during the tour.

Djalal said it was great to come aboard Lincoln for the tour.

“I was invited here to learn more about their [U.S. Navy] technologies, professions and other things like that,” Djalal said.

The senior military officials were given the opportunity to speak with Lincoln crew members, briefed on Lincoln’s aircraft, and viewed the air demonstration, aircraft recovery and the carrier’s signal bridge.

“It’s all been really impressive,” Djalal said. “I was happy to see the exhibitions and exercises. I enjoyed it, as did my colleagues.”

Lincoln participated in the relief efforts following the 2005 tsunami in Indonesia, which made Djalal’s visit even more special.

“We had a meeting in Singapore last week on the U.S. Pacific common conference over there, and I said that the U.S. military face is impressive,” said Djalal. “The tsunami relief efforts gave me another image, an impressive image, and that is what I call the human face of the American military establishment.”

Lincoln is currently deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility to support maritime security operations.
