NOSC Everett recognizes Reserve NSF, ONR units

Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Everett’s first Unit Excellence awards were presented during the Jan. 5-6 drill weekend.

(Navy Reserve) Naval Security Force (NSF) Everett took the large unit category under the command of Lt.j.g. Greg Skyles, while the small unit award winner was (Navy Reserve) Office of Naval Research and Naval Research Laboratory (ONR/NRL) S&T 115, led by Cmdr. Steve Swindler.

The Unit Excellence Award has evolved from Commander, Navy Reserve Force’s past “Barto” Award, and was created in order to recognize the efforts of outstanding Reserve Force units. The award highlights a unit’s operational support to their gaining command within the past fiscal year, as well as their successes while managing the administrative requirements with the NOSC.

“This is a great day for two units who represent the best of what the Navy Reserve can do” said Lt. Cmdr. Brad Davis, commanding officer of the NOSC. “Both units are fully integrated with their active duty supporting commands and both units make a big difference for the Navy on a daily basis.”

NSF Everett is composed of 38 reserve component Sailors, predominantly masters-at-arms, who provide additional security support to Naval Station Everett. Most members are local police officers or federal agents in the civilian world.

The ONR unit is composed mainly of engineering officers who support the Office of Naval Research and the Naval Research Lab’s Program 38 in Washington D.C. Currently the unit is providing technical support to several programs including the Electromagnetic Railgun Innovative Naval Prototype and PLUSnet, Persistent Littoral Undersea Surveillance Network.
