Naval Station Everett chapel communities gave military parents a special night out when they sponsored a “Date Night” at the Smokey Point Chapel in Marysville, Wash., Aug 20.

Parents were able to drop their kids off at the chapel for three hours of games, laughter, bible lessons, and more, giving them time to go out on a date, go shopping, or just stay at home.

“This program gives parents the opportunity to breath knowing they can have a night to themselves while their kids are safe and getting a religious education,” said Natalie Horton, protestant director for Naval Station Everett Chapel.

The children’s evening of fun started with chapel congregate Parker Wells as he taught them all about rocks and minerals, showing them examples of each from his personal collection. They also played games, listened to a bible lesson, learned songs, and prayed together.

“We started this program back in August of last year.  The program has been slow going, but we hope that it continues to expand,” said Horton.

“This program gives parents three hours of time to do whatever they want to do, with no babysitting fee; its free,” said volunteer Angie Loney.

The Naval Station Everett chapel community is planning to offer this program on the third Friday of each month. For more information or to register your child, contact Natalie Horton at . Children ages 3-11 are allowed to register.
