Subsidized school age care for children of active duty, reservists on active status and DoD civilians is now available through a unique partnership with the Marysville YMCA. Options for care include before school, after school, before and after school as well as holiday breaks and summer camps. Care is currently available for children in all day kindergarten through 6th grade, in the Marysville, Arlington and Lakewood school districts.

“We’ve worked really hard to get subsidized school age care for our Navy families here,” said Jody Copeland, youth programs coordinator for Naval Station Everett. “In partnering with the Marysville Y we are able to serve multiple schools within three school districts.”

According to both Copeland and Marysville Family YMCA Executive Director. Wendy Bart, the Marysville YMCA has been a long time supporter of the Navy community and the families stationed at Naval Station Everett.

As branch of the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA), they have supported programs such as Operation Hero and Y on Wheels, as well as provided summer camp scholarships for military youth. Currently, 28 children are enrolled in the Operation Hero tutoring program in the Lakewood school district and the Y on Wheels mobile recreation program is scheduled to operate in the Carroll’s Creek Landing housing area beginning late June or early July.

“Bringing the community resources together to support the Navy is really exciting for us,” said Bart. “In doing so, we are able to provide easily accessible, high quality, affordable care to the Navy families already living in our community. We want to extend their sense of community and become an additional resource should they need it.”

Although the school age care sites will not be Navy owned and operated, in order to fulfill their contractual agreement, each site operated by the Marysville YMCA will be required to meet the strict Navy regulations governing childcare programs, including national accreditation through the Council on Accreditation (COA). Naval Station Everett Youth Programs will work closely with the Marysville YMCA to assist them with the accreditation process, which can take up to 18 months to achieve.

Care during the school year includes hours before or after school, all major holiday breaks, in service days and non-school days. Summer camp programs run June through August.

Fees for the programs are based on Total Household Income (THI) and can be paid monthly or twice a month. Fees for before school or after school care, including all holidays, non-school days and early release days, range in price from $69-$152 per month. Fees for before and after school care, including all holidays, non-school days and early release days, range in price from $134-$286 per month. Fees for summer camp range in price from $243-$507 per month. A 20 percent multiple child discount is also available for families enrolling two or more children in program.
