USS Henry M. Jackson (HMJ) (SSBN 730) (Gold) returned to Naval Base Kitsap, Bangor, after a five-week
patrol, completing their first patrol in nearly four-and-a-half years, April 13.
HMJ was in the shipyard for a D-5 Missile conversion from the older C-4 missile system, along with
completing extensive maintenance at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

More than 100 service members, family members, veterans and friends attended a memorial service May 3 for World War II veteran Capt. Richard McCool Jr. at the Bainbridge Island, Wash., Seabold United Methodist Church. McCool received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty as commanding officer of the Landing Craft Support U.S.S. LCS(L)(3) 122 during operations against enemy Japanese forces in the Ryukyu chain, June 10-11, 1945.

Sailors from Naval Magazine (NAVMAG) Indian Island and their families teamed up with local volunteers to clean up park trails and beaches along the shores of Indian Island as part of the Earth Week celebration, April 25. The team of more than 15 volunteers was divided up into three groups to clean up a two-mile long stretch of beaches. The beach clean up began at Portage Beach, through Lagoon Beach and Isthmus Beach.

Haze gray and underway; the life of a Sailor aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) can lack color, literally. Some Stennis wives are doing what they can to make their Sailors’ lives a little brighter.
In an effort to make sure Stennis Sailors have an aesthetically pleasing place to live and work when in port, some Stennis wives got together Wednesday morning, to beautify Naval Base Kitsap-Bremerton; planting trees just outside the base gym.

Naval Hospital Bremerton held a job fair on its quarterdeck last Friday to give interested corpsmen the chance to find out what opportunities were available to them for medical specialization and advanced training. The step from general duty corpsmen to a specialty field is a big career decision to make, and the fair was designed to give “quad-zeroes” (named for the 0000 Navy enlistment classification code for general duty corpsmen) a chance to learn about some specialty fields from the people who do those jobs every day.
