Bangor Earth Day Fair scheduled

In keeping with this year’s Earth Day theme, “Partnering for a Greener Future,” Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Northwest is partnering with local commands and community organizations to hold an Earth Day Fair on Naval Base Kitsap Bangor.

The fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 21 at the brickyard located between the NBK Bangor gym and the theater.  The Galley will provide a barbecue lunch for $4.25 to all persons with base access and the Navy Band Northwest popular music group “Passages” will provide entertainment starting at 11 am.

Participants will include community organizations, including the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group, the Kitsap County Master Gardener’s Association, the Washington State University Kitsap Small Farms Team, the Kitsap County Beach Watchers Program, the Kitsap County Noxious Weed Control Program, the West Sound Wildlife Shelter, and Kitsap County Solid Waste, in addition to NAVFAC NW energy, recycling and environmental displays.  A variety of alternative energy vehicles will also be on display.

Seminars will be offered on various topics during the fair, including how to attract beneficial insects and pollinators, the benefits of eating and buying locally grown food, raptor rehabilitation and wildlife conservation, and what materials are recyclable.  A schedule of events, including a complete list of participants and a schedule of speakers, will be published in early April.  So, mark your calendar and don’t miss this fun event!
