Capt. Timothy Block, left, receives a command pin from Capt. Charles LaSota after taking over duties as commanding officer of Strategic Weapons Facility, Pacific (SWFPAC) during a change of command ceremony at Naval Base Kitsap, Bangor, June 27.

More than 400 family members, friends, guests and staff of Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific (SWFPAC) gathered outside SWFPAC headquarters
at Naval Base Kitsap during a traditional change of command ceremony June 27. Capt. Charles S. LaSota turned over the reigns to Capt. Timothy J. Block
during the ceremony. The principal speaker for the event was Rear Adm. Stephen E. Johnson, director of Strategic Systems Programs, who kicked off the
ceremony with highlights of LaSota’s accomplishments as commanding officer.
“Today is a very special moment, and I hope each of you will treasure what we will witness during this change of command,” said Johnson. “We will witness
a transfer of accountability, a tradition the Navy has carried and passed on for many years.”
Johnson added that SWFPAC carries a tremendous responsibility and emphasized LaSota’s significant leadership abilities.
“It is what we recognize today, and right behind him are all the men and women who manage every aspect of this operation,” said Johnson. “For the
past three years Capt. LaSota has consistently executed each and every mission on time.”
After Johnson’s words, LaSota addressed his staff one last time.
“I am honored by those kind words, but it truly belongs to the men and women of the SWFPAC team,” said LaSota. “Without their professionalism,
dedication, and their steadfast commitment to our Navy and our nation’s strategic deterrent mission, all of the accomplishments that you cited would
not have been possible.”
LaSota added thanks to the members of the SWFPAC team for their encouragement, mentoring and support during his time as commanding officer.
“SWFPAC has been the most challenging and the most rewarding tour in my naval career,” said LaSota. “What has made it so rewarding has not been the
accolades that come from achieving great accomplishments or the recognition associated with achieving first time events, but what makes this tour
more special than any other is the people.”
Following his comments, LaSota read his orders out loud and was relieved by Block.
“I look forward to facing the challenges ahead with all of you,” said Block. “SWFPAC, your superior professionalism and expertise is evident in everything
you touch. What an incredible and unparalleled Navy, Marine, government, civilian and contractor weapons team.”
