Twenty-eight Sailors were promoted at NBK Dec. 2.

A frocking ceremony held Dec. 2 promoted 28 Naval Base Kitsap Sailors. The Sailors, their shipmates, friends and families gathered in the base theater at Bangor.

Capt. Douglass Biesel, commanding officer, Naval Base Kitsap, officially promoted the Sailors.

“You’re all doing very, very well. Congratulations on your promotions and keep up the good work,” said Biesel.

The Sailors stood in ranks with the 11 new first class petty officers in front, seven new second class petty officers next and ten new third class petty officers behind as each rank was read it’s new responsibilities.

Cmdr. Steven Stevens, executive officer, Naval Base Kitsap, commended all first and second-class petty officers and reminded them, “Occupying now a position of greater authority you must strive with renewed dedication toward these valued ideals of service with honor.”

Some of the newly promoted Sailors said they carry pride in knowing that the appointment of their new rank carries with it an obligation to accept increased responsibility.

“I was extremely excited when I found out that I had made second class. With my promotion, people in my work station will give me more responsibility,” said Quartermaster 2nd Class Latasha Hill.

The third class petty officers were read The Navy Petty Officer’s Creed. The creed states what it is to be a leader to the finest Sailors in the world and the privilege they have of being such a leader.

“To stand in front of your co-workers in your command and to have them see a big moment in your career, I think is a gratifying feeling for anyone who gets promoted,” said Journalist 3rd Class Adam Vernon, NBK public affairs.

After the ceremony, friends and families gathered with their newly promoted service member for photos.

“It was important to me to have my friends and family here. They are the support I use everyday. It gave me a great sense of pride to be up in front of them,” said Builder 1st Class (SCW) Brad Behlow, NBK self-help.

NBK Sailors did better overall than the rest of the Navy, the advanced 1st, 2nd and 3rd class petty officers all surpassed the Navy average for promotion. For example, the Navy average for promotion for those up for third class petty officer was 36 percent. Here at Naval Base Kitsap, 50 percent of the Sailors up for third class made it.
