Career management symposium coming to Northwest

By Naval Personnel Command

Friday, April 8, 2005

Navy Region Northwest will hold a Career Management Symposium for area Sailors and their families from April 18-22.

The series begins with a brief for commanding officers, executive officers, command master chiefs, and command career counselors on Navy retention and career management issues.  This brief will share the latest news on Navy Personnel and Pay initiatives, compare local retention and attrition statistics to Navy averages, and offer some creative “best practices” to help commands retain one Sailor at a time.

Sailors and their spouses are invited and encouraged to attend the Career Information Seminars to obtain information they need for informed career decisions.  Experienced Commanding Officers and Command Master Chief’s provide the seminars.  Each of the seminars compares Navy and civilian careers on such issues as pay, benefits, job security, and retirement plans, as well as current Navy career programs such as JASS Career Management System (JCMS), Fleet Ride, Perform to Serve (PTS), Navy Knowledge Online (NKO) and Five Vector Model (5VM).

Fleet and Family Support programs will also be included at each of the spouse briefings, providing information on Navy One-Source.  Door prizes will be presented along with some excellent information for all spouses, so be certain to mark it on your calendar.

Enlisted detailers will be available throughout the week at each of the bases.  Specific detailers and locations will be posted with command career counselors.

Included with the rating detailers will be a special programs detailer and Class “A” Schools detailer. If you are interested in applying for either, see your command career counselor now to begin processing.  When you see these detailers in person, ensure you have the following items with you:  command approved NP1306/7, copies of last three evaluations, copy of NP1070/604 with ASVAB scores, special programs screening form signed by your chain of command, and any other preliminary paperwork or screenings required for your specific request.
