CNO selects best in environmental arena

The CNO annually confers environmental quality awards on Navy personnel, ships, and shore activities in recognition of outstanding performance in protecting and enhancing the quality of the environment. Competition categories include natural resources conservation, cultural resources management, environmental quality, pollution prevention, environmental restoration, and environmental planning. Throughout the Navy, 28 winners have been selected for the 2004 Chief of Naval Operations Environmental Awards competition, sponsored by the CNO Environmental Readiness Division.

Bank of America suffers loss of travel card data

In late December 2004 the Bank of America experienced a loss of computer data tapes containing 1.1 million Bank of America government travel card account numbers including at least 242,000 from Navy and 56,000 from Marine Corps account holders. Both open and closed accounts are potentially impacted. The tapes also contained personal information (e.g. names, social security numbers, and addresses) for many of these accounts.

Seabees from Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 303 (CBMU 303) on Naval Base Kitsap took a road trip to Washington Veterans Home in Port Orchard to visit the second-oldest Seabee in the United States, retired Navy Seabee James Morgan on the celebration of his 100th birthday Feb. 17.

Consolidated mail facility delivers

The Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (FISC), Puget Sound has created a regional consolidated mail facility (CMF). The Northwest Regional CMF joins the Navy’s six other CMF’s located in San Diego, Norfolk, Pearl Harbor, Washington D.C., Sigonella, Italy, and Yokohama, Japan and represents the latest Northwest regionalization milestone.
