‘Comics on Duty’ bring laughs to region

Comedians from “Comics on Duty” entertained service members and their families aboard Navy installations in the Northwest Aug. 19-20.
Comedians featured during the two-day tour included Steve Bills, Steve Burr, Chris Alpine and John Bizarre.
“This is my first time coming out to one of these, and I think it’s great; I really love it so far,” said Interior Communications Electrician Fireman (SW) Ian Barb, USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74).
The comedians kept the audience entertained with jokes, contorted faces and gestures during their sets.
“I have not laughed this hard probably in about six months,” said Barb. “It’s a great stress reliever for sure. I saw the flier about the comedy show at the Samuel Adams today on the base in Bremerton and wanted to see the show and had to bring my three friends.”
The Comics on Duty mission is to provide the highest caliber comedy programming to the U.S. Armed Forces.
“Our shows to military are free, and it is so that they can come see a high-quality performance without having to pay for it,” said Steve Bills, Comics on Duty road manager. “I do this [act] as a way to give back to our military. I am pro-military.”
Bills also said he feels like he’s part of the bigger picture.
“The military personnel have a job to do, and they have to do it at their best,” said Bills. “I’ve done performances at Naval hospitals and seen the wounded, and I’m on board with them. I really appreciate what they do and see why they are necessary. And although my part is small, I love being a part of it. I have a job to entertain them.”
“It was very entertaining,” said Master-at-Arms 2nd Class Fabian Salazar, Naval Station Everett kennel supervisor. “I couldn’t keep my food down.”
