Live online tutoring available
Service members and their families now have free, unlimited access to live online K-12 tutoring from Tutor.com through a program provided by the Department of Defense. Students worldwide can work with a certified, professional tutor 24 hours a day, seven days a week to get help with homework, studying, test preparation, and more.
Tutor.com offers one-to-one help for students of all ages, from K-12 to college to adult learners, in more than 16 subjects from elementary math to physics.
“My 5th grader has used it and loved it,” said Debra Nelson, a Navy spouse whose 10-year-old daughter is an avid user of Tutor.com.
“It’s my new best friend!” said Page Doveri, who recently went back to college to become a medical assistant.
Whenever a student needs help, they just enter their question and are connected to a tutor in an interactive online classroom and they work together with the tutor until the problem is solved. Everything happens in real-time, online.
Students can chat with a tutor, draw on the interactive whiteboard, share and edit files, browse the Web with a tutor. All tutors are subject-matter experts, screened, certified and background-checked.
Navy members and their family members looking for K-12 tutoring can access the program for free by logging into to a Navy Knowledge Online account, http://www.nko.navy.mil, and click on the “Reference” tab. Look for the Tutor.com box in the right column, and click on the links “Kids and Teens” to get a tutor.
Authorized users of the free service include U.S. active duty military service members, U.S. military reservists, U.S. National Guard personnel on active duty in a deployed status and DoD civilians in a deployed status, and their family members.
“Tutor.com is proud to support the men and women who are serving our country and their families, especially when many parents are deployed and spending time away from their children,” said George Cigale, founder and CEO of Tutor.com. “Whether itís an eighth grader struggling with Algebra or a parent who is going through a career transition, now thereís help for everyone. We hope this program relieves at least one stress from military family life.”
