HM1 Jermaine Williams is CNRNW Sailor of the Year.

This hospital corpsman just looks like any other friendly Sailor when you pass him in the hall, but if you’ve see him at work, it quickly becomes apparent that he goes beyond the call of duty to help his shipmates reach their goals and shape the future Navy.

And for that, HM1 (FMF) Jermaine Williams, the leading petty officer for administrative operations at Naval Hospital Bremerton (NHB) has been selected Commander Navy Region Northwest 2004 Sailor of the Year.

“Petty Officer Williams is a superb example of the quality of people we have serving in our Navy and in our region,” said Rear Adm. Len Hering, commander Navy Region Northwest.

Williams’ daily duties include creating comprehensive database and evaluation packages, but beyond that he has volunteered over 200 hours of personal time as a Fitness Enhancement Program instructor and is an active member of the NHB Command Assessment Team.

“I feel I was chosen because of my unwavering commitment to the Navy’s mission. In today’s constantly evolving Navy, leaders need to possess a dynamic leadership style to lead and develop personnel for future success,” said Williams.

Williams competed with eight other 1st class petty officers for the title. A selection board of senior and master chiefs from Navy Region Northwest commands evaluated them all. After that process Hering interviewed selected members.

“Even though I felt like I was prepared for the board and that the interview process went well, I was still truly surprised and honored that I was chosen to represent the Northwest region as senior Sailor of the year,” said Williams.

Williams credits his success to the leaders he’s had in his own career thus far,

“The years of mentorship and guidance I have received has helped develop me into a leader myself.”

Williams’s future goals include advancing to Chief Petty Officer and finishing his college degree. He’s also checking into becoming commissioned as an officer.

“I’m currently preparing for my future in the Navy by ensuring that my records are up to date for the Chief selection board,” Williams said. “I recently received orders to Okinawa, Japan and that will keep my sea to shore rotation in balance. I’m also taking college courses and Navy E-learning courses to help continue my personal and professional development,” said Williams.
