Seafair events approaching

Plans for the 2008 Seafair Festival are well underway and this year promises to be another outstanding summer of
excitement and celebration. This year planners are looking for record military involvement whether it is participating
in the triathlon, or volunteering as a course monitor for the torchlight run.
Below is a list of events that are going on during Seafair.
Milk Carton Derby
Saturday, July 5, Southwest Shores of Green Lake, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free Call (206) 728-0123 for more
information.
Annual Allstate Milk Carton Derby at Seafair will kick-off an action-packed Seafair summer 2008. This event consists
of building a (buoyant) boat out of milk cartons and then competing in a race.
Nearly 100 colorful milk carton boats of all shapes and design will compete for $10,000 in prizes. The derby is
highlighted by a full day of boat-building “competition” as children, adults, families and businesses build milk carton
watercraft for show and racing on Green Lake. There is military unit race as well.
For those looking to stay dry, there will be plenty of activities on shore as well. Make sure to check out the Children’s
Show at noon, which is sure to excite the crowd. The Sea Gals will be onsite signing autographs, pig petting will be
available to all, bounce house fun for the kids and plenty of food booths will line the shore.
Virginia Mason Team Medicine Seafair Marathon
On Sunday, June 29,
Bellevue Downtown Park, 10201 NE 4th St. in Bellevue, from
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Call (206) 728-0123 for more information.
This scenic Pacific Northwest course will be a point-to-point route taking participants from Husky Stadium at the
University of Washington in Seattle over the 520 Evergreen Point Floating Bridge for a once in a lifetime chance to cross
on foot.
Participants will then go across nine miles of Lake Washington waterfront neighborhoods in Kirkland and Bellevue, finishing
the marathon or half marathon sprint at Bellevue Downtown Park.
Shriners golf tourney
On Thursday, July 31, at
Nile golf course, from
6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Call (425)776-5154, ext. 512 for more information.
This event is set up for the military. Groups are sent out in fours, usually two Shriners and two active duty members.
The Golf is free and the time is great. There is a drawing and lunch for all service members as well.
The beautiful Golf Course at the Nile Shrine Center is a challenging 5001 yard, par 67 dream. Short, but demanding
consistent straight shots, this course will require you to bring forth your “A” game.
The greens are large and undulating with subtle breaks that have caused many a golfer to shake their head.
