Airmen are joining Soldiers and Sailors In Afghanistan in assembling containers to help with the multinational effort to provide humanitarian assistance and support to the people of Pakistan following the 7.6-magnitude earthquake that shook the country Oct. 8.
When they’re not repairing aircraft for their units, Air Force EC-130 maintainers, alongside their counterparts working on Navy EA-6Bs, have been lending a hand to help riggers from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division build containerized delivery systems (CDS).

The “Cougars” of VAQ-139 continue to write new chapters in Naval aviation history by becoming the first EA-6B “Prowler” squadron to deploy at sea with the Improved Capability (ICAP) III system.
The Whidbey Island based squadron is currently utilizing the new technology while embarked aboard USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) in the Pacific Ocean as part of Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX).

Patrol Squadron One recently completed its Aviation Maintenance Inspection (AMI) and passed with flying colors. The Commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing (COMPATRECONWING) Ten inspection team conducted the inspection from Sept. 8 to 14.
The final consensus was, “The Screaming Eagles safety climate and individual attitude towards safety was positive,” reaffirming that the maintenance department is fully prepared to support all operational requirements.

Afghanistan - More than two years ago, the Space Shuttle Columbia and her crew perished during reentry. On Oct. 13, the Garudas of Electronic Attack Squadron 134 celebrated the Navy’s 230th birthday by dedicating the Prowler camp at their airfield in Afghanistan in honor of the Columbia’s pilot, Cmdr. William McCool.
During the celebration honoring McCool, Brig. Gen. Bruce Burda (USAF), the commander of the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing, joined the Garudas to commemorate the renaming of the camp.

The Fighting Marlins of Patrol Squadron Forty (VP-40) have been busy travelers during their ongoing Pacific deployment.
Establishing VP-40 as a constant presence in the ongoing CARAT exercise series, members of Combat Aircrew One and a select maintenance crew flew a P-3 to Paya Lebar Air Base in Singapore. Under the direction of detachment Officer-in-Charge Lt. Cmdr. Andy Hess, Mission Commander Lt. Kevin Johnston and Plane Commander Lt. Dennis Jensen, the crew embarked upon their mission of goodwill and good training.

Most people would never dream of running a marathon, still others aspire to one day achieve such a goal. For some people, the idea of running that far seems impossible or just plain crazy. Marine Corps 1st Lt. Jessica Utter, a student at the Aviation Electronic Warfare School here at NAS Whidbey Island, ran her first full marathon on Saturday, Oct. 15 and that was just icing on the cake.
