Enjoying hot temperatures and great flying conditions, Electronic Attack Squadron 137 (VAQ-137) participated in the Advanced Readiness Program with Carrier Air Wing One from Aug. 8 to 12 at Naval Air Station Fallon, Nev. While it wasn’t as long as many Fallon detachments, there was still plenty to do as the Rooks worked with the rest of CVW-1 for the first time as the squadron began its work-up cycle prior to a coming deployment.

The yearly event focuses public awareness on the proactive and reactive measures performed by local, state and federal authorities in the fight against crime and drugs.

For seven days at the end of July, Patrol Squadron (VP) 46’s flight surgeon, Lt. Penny Goode, was on a 485-mile bicycle ride.
Goode, along with 13 other riders from various commands throughout the Navy, participated the annual state cycle tour known as Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. The event, which took place from July 24 to 30, marked the 33rd consecutive year in which riders from all across the United States and the world have been meeting for this statewide celebration.

VR-61 was recently awarded the CNO’s top safety award for outstanding safety during 2004.
The squadron operates a fleet of five C-9 and DC-9 aircraft to support global airlift requirements. In 2004, VR-61 carried over 16,000 passengers and one million pounds of cargo, making it the backbone of naval air logistics.

VAQ-132 surpassed a monumental aviation safety milestone on July 5, having completed 35 years of Class ‘A’ mishap-free flying.
During this time, the squadron amassed an impressive 56,900 flight hours, leading the way for the entire Prowler community.

A combination of invading brush and a large population of voles have been eating away at the endangered Golden Paintbrush over the past two years at Forbes Point on NAS Whidbey Island’s Seaplane Base.
This is only one of nine sites in the United States in which it can be found; five of the meadowlands in which it grows are on Whidbey Island said air station Environmental Department ecologist John Phillips.

The Wizards of VAQ-133 deployed to Naval Air Weapons Station Point Mugu, Calif., on July 20 to participate in a High-speed Anti-Radiation Missile Exercise with Carrier Air Wing 14 and VAQ-142.
Pt. Mugu is located about 65 miles northwest of Los Angeles and is composed of more than 4,500 acres. European explorer Juan Cabrillo originally discovered the area in 1542. The Chumash Indian tribe inhabited the area called “muwu,” which is how Point Mugu earned its present name.
