Clark awarded Bronze Star Medal

A ceremony was held on July 8 to present the Bronze Star Medal to Aviation Ordnance Senior Chief Petty Officer (EOD) Eric Clark of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 11. Clark received this award for his service in Afghanistan from Oct. 12, 2004 to April 1, 2005. While in Afghanistan, Clark was assigned as Acting Officer in Charge of the Combined Explosive Exploitation Cell to Combined Task Force 76 in Bagram Airfield in direct support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Prowler community celebrates at annual ball

The Annual Prowler Week wrapped up on July 23 with an evening celebrating the hard work and perseverance of members of the EA-6B Prowler community. Almost 700 guests strolled down the red carpet into a transformed hangar five where they enjoyed fine cuisine, dancing and camaraderie, all in the theme of “Broadway.”

Rooks conquer Prowler golf tournament

One of the most popular and widely attended Prowler Week events is the annual Prowler Golf Tournament. Held on Thursday this year because of a major tournament on Friday, the outing provided a much-needed break from the rigors of our squadron’s busy schedule.

Lancer becomes tactics instructor

After a two-month syllabus of grueling academics, simulators and tactical flight training, Lt. Erica Burfield graduated from the Electronic Attack Weapons School Prowler Tactics Instructor course. She will bring the most up-to-date tactical knowledge to train the Lancers.

Naval Air Forces addresses follow-on plane for airborne electronic attack mission

Commander, Naval Air Forces, Vice Adm. James M. Zortman, along with base Commanding Officer, Capt. Syd Abernethy and Electronic Attack Wing Commander, Capt. Chris Field, met with area government and other Navy officials here Monday to discuss the planned replacement of the EA-6B Prowler.

Gray Wolves enjoy success at Cope Thunder

VAQ-142’s two-week stay at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska was an excellent one. With the sun never completely setting and wildlife running rampant, maintenance personnel and aircrew alike struggled to remain focused on the task at hand. Hosted and conducted by the United States Air Force, Cope Thunder is a multi-national training exercise held throughout the year. Flying side by side with the Gray Wolves this time around were squadrons from Japan, Thailand, Germany, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.

Yellow Jackets earn ‘Golden Wrench’

In a ceremony aboard USS Carl Vinson, the Yellow Jackets of VAQ-138 were awarded the Carrier Air Wing Nine “Golden Wrench” award for their superb maintenance of the squadron’s four EA-6Bs and their tireless efforts in maintaining the highest Operation Iraqi Freedom sortie completion rate.

Zappers surge aboard Truman

The VAQ-130 Zappers have again returned to USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). The first at-sea sustainment period will allow the squadron and its Carrier Air Wing Three brethren to work with the ship’s crew for eight days. The main goal of this sustainment period is to achieve day and night carrier qualifications for all pilots and to conduct strike training missions keeping the Air Wing surge capable in accordance with the Navy’s new Fleet Readiness Program.
