On an unusually bright July 13 morning, P-3C aircraft 002 rolls to a stop in front of VP-46’s Hangar 7 at NAS Whidbey. On board is Aviation Machinist’s Mate Chief(AW) James F. Flaherty.
As a senior flight engineer in VP-46, Chief Flaherty has spent a number of seasoned hours in the flight station of the P-3C, but this flight is different. It is the final flight of his career as he retires from 26 years of service in the Navy on the same day.

The VAQ-131 Ordnance Shop hit the ground running after a returning from deployment in early March. Excelling both at sea and ashore, the Lancer Aviation Ordnancemen and Maintenance Department provided full-mission-capable jets during an Air Wing Fallon detachment, aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) during a two-week strike group sustainment training and scored an outstanding during a Conventional Weapons Technical Proficiency Inspection assist visit.

On Thursday, May 26, the Lancers hailed Cmdr. William and Monica Park.Park took the reins as Executive Officer of Electronic Attack Squadron 131 attached to Carrier Air Wing Two and USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72).
He is a third generation Sailor from Rock Island, Ill., who graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy in 1988, earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.
After designation as a Naval Flight Officer, he reported to the VA-42 Green Pawns in Oceana, Va., for initial training in the A-6 Intruder.

The Black Ravens have had a demanding first two weeks at sea since embarking with USS Nimitz (CVN 68) for their WestPac 2005 deployment.
Since leaving family and friends behind at the beginning of May from their homes in Whidbey Island, members of VAQ-135 have remained focused and are preparing for operations in the Western Pacific and Persian Gulf regions.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Civilian Human Resources, Patricia Adams, visited NAS Whidbey Island on Monday, July 11 to talk to civil service employees and military members who supervise civilians about the National Security Personnel System (NSPS).
While introducing herself, Adams praised the dedication of civil service employees.

The Patriots of VAQ-140 eagerly answered the Marine challenge of a field meet on July 1st at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan.
The day began with the Patriots proudly taking to the field in regulation white-on-blue PT gear, standing out sharply against the Marine green of the rest of Marine Air Group 12. Following warm-up exercises and calisthenics, the Patriots fell in for a Marine-style 2.5-mile formation run across the base to the location of the field meet.

Lt. Cmdr. Leonard Lyon relieved Lt. Cmdr. George Byford as commanding officer of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 17 on Sunday, June 26. The ceremony was conducted at the Seaplane Base Marina with Rear Adm. Dirk J. Debbink, Reserve Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff, U.S. Pacific Fleet, as guest speaker. Also in attendance was Capt.
