“I have served on an IA in Iraq and understand the demands that are placed on service members, and their families,” said Slais. “I praise their extreme devotion to the mission and the U.S. Navy.”

In 2006, the Navy Standard Integrated Personnel System (NSIPS) Electronic Service Record (ESR) was established as the single field-level entry point for Navy service record maintenance. ESR was also designed to replace the enlisted paper Field Service Record (FSR).
In January 2010, the FSR closeout began phasing out predominately by geographic location. You will be notified by your personnel office of when your command is scheduled.
Your personnel office will scan and electronically submit specific FSR documents for inclusion into your Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) as outlined in the Enlisted Field Service Record (EFSR) Closeout Disposition Plan.

The corporate knowledge of NAS Whidbey Island’s federal employees is a valued resource to their military counterparts who must transfer every three years or so.
Navy Munitions Command’s (NMC) CONUS West Division Detachment Whidbey Island recognizes this fact, and fully understands and appreciates their six civilians’ ordnance experience – all 100 years worth, excluding their prior uniformed service.
Master Chief Torpedoman’s Mate Michael Vimislik, detachment senior enlisted advisor, and the rest of the military workforce regularly depend upon the experience and expertise of the NMC civilians. The continuity they provide help to ease the training peaks and valleys that are inherent due to the transient nature of Sailors rotating in and out of the detachment.
Civilian employees here are recognized by the detachment, along with the Sailors, on a quarterly and annual basis.

At VQ-1, many Sailors deploy every two to four months, so they appreciate the volunteers’ efforts at mentoring the young ones left back at home.
“Parents may not have time based on their deployment schedule, so why not pick up the slack and go give that time back at the schools,” said Graham.
Graham recalls her own upbringing, and how volunteers were such a part of her growth and development.
