ACME comes to rescue

ACME has long been associated with “Wile E Coyote’s” eternal pursuit of the Road Runner, but now they have come to CNATT Unit Whidbey Island.  In support of CNATT Unit (formerly NAMTRAU) Whidbey’s long tradition producing the best trained Sailors and Marines for the fleet, they recently received a newly reworked EA-6B Flight Controls trainer from ACME World services.

The original trainer, made from the hulk of a decommissioned A-6 airframe, provided valuable training to students, but it lacked in areas specific to the Prowler. The trainer was shipped to ACME in Albuquerque, New Mexico to be modified.

The modification incorporated a complete outboard wing assembly and replaced all A-6 components with those of the EA-6B. After a short four months ACME returned this vital trainer to the airframes department vastly more capable than when it left. Students will now see how Prowler flight controls function with the same components that they would see on the actual aircraft.

Not only does the trainer contain all the same systems found on the EA-6B, but it also has a fault panel that allows the instructor to simulate a wide variety of failures commonly found in the fleet.

This capability provides the student with valuable real world scenarios that they might encounter on a routine basis in their squadron. With the added ability to get real hands on experience students are able to retain more information and put that information to use upon reporting to the fleet.

CNATT Unit continues to strive to improve the quality of training students receive and ACME has not only returned a valuable trainer but they are also involved in other projects. With the help of ACME CNATT Unit will continue to provide the best-trained technicians to the fleet.
