All girls flag football league starting

Oak Harbor Youth Football and the NAS Whidbey Island Youth Center are partnering for form the community’s very first all girls-flag football league. The league will run September through October and is open to girls ages 9 to 14. Practice begins in mid-August.

Melissa Haley, NAS Whidbey Island Youth and Teen Program manager, is excited about a the new opportunity.

“The community has recognized that girls are more and more interested in a variety of sports, and this provides one more outlet for them,” Haley said. “Many times, activities like this bring girls who have no sports background out on the field. It allows a chance for the casual female athlete to play in and enjoy a sport.”
