Delicious food makes Sailors feel appreciated

The holidays are upon us. The leaves are turning colors and snow is covering the mountains.

Thanksgiving kicks off the season, and it’s a great opportunity to get away and spend time with family and friend, a time to reflect and give thanks for the things of the past year.

It’s also a time when VQ-2 recognizes its single Sailors with a luncheon held in their honor on Nov. 22.

“It’s a great opportunity for the First Class Association, Chief’s Mess and the officers to take a moment to make the Sailors aware that they are important and we appreciate them,” said Command Master Chief Ricky Parker.

This event has been sponsored by the squadron for several years and has always been a huge success. This year was no different. It kicked off at 11 a.m. with 50 feet worth of table covered, end-to-end, with 11 turkeys, five hams and an abundance of sides and desserts.

“We had a great show of support from the VQ-2 spouses,” said Parker. “Even those whose husbands are away on detachment contributed.”

The turkeys were cooked by the chiefs outside the hangar. After a short speech by the command master chief and commanding officer, they were ready to be served.

“This is my first command and my first time to experience a single sailor appreciation lunch,” said YNSN Toni Mike. “The food was really good and there was plenty of it. I would like to see this happen every year.” That seems to be the consensus among all the Sailors.

Even in the midst of moving into the new squadron spaces, people took time to come and enjoy a wonderful meal provided by the their fellow VQ-2 members.
