NPC’s career experts to visit Whidbey Island

Navy Personnel Command’s (NPC) Center for Career Development (CCD) will visit Naval Air Station Whidbey Island to present a Career Management Symposium Nov. 29 through Dec. 1.

According to NPC, the symposium is to give Sailors up-to-date critical information required for successful career management. Sailors can also meet detailers face-to-face to discuss upcoming transfers or other career topics.

“Sometimes, Sailors talk with their peers and get incorrect or incomplete information,” said Cmdr. Woods Brown, the NPC team leader who’s organizing the trip. “Career Management Symposiums give us the chance to sit down with Sailors and give them all the current information, and gives them a chance to ask questions and get answers. It bridges the gap between the career development process in a command, and the time they have to do it.”

Established in April 2000, NPC Career Development Center was created to provide enhanced professional training for Navy career counselors and command retention teams, said CMDCM Al Holland, the team’s CMC liaison.

“During a CMS, we give Sailors data on educational opportunities and other career progression-related items to help them develop a professional and personal ‘resume’ for their life in the Navy and beyond,” he said. By traveling to Navy communities around the world, he says his teams furnish up-to-the-moment career information on the tools Sailors need to succeed in a Navy careers.

Topics will include officer career management, officer promotion, enlisted career management, enlisted selection board and detailer briefs.

Command career counselors in each location have the specific schedules. Holland said topics that come up in the symposium cover a wide variety of programs and initiatives, such as Revolution in Training (RIT) and NKO.

Brown said socials are planned for both enlisted and officer spouses to provide relevant information to those with the “hardest job in the Navy.” Both socials will be Nov. 30, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Skywarrior Theater for officer spouses and Bldg. 13 of the Seaplane Base for enlisted spouses.
