Ombudsmen receive well-deserved appreciation

Community Programs
The Navy couldn't run without them. Some of our country's best ombudsmen take a bow.

NAS Whidbey Island Navy Family Ombudsmen gathered at the CPO Club ballroom on the evening of Sept. 22 to receive recognition for their tireless volunteer efforts to commands throughout the year.

This night was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate ombudsmen and give them the recognition they deserve for their unpaid, unadvertised work. Attending were those who support ombudsmen, such as commanding officers, command master chiefs, spouses and even children turned out to show appreciation for these loyal team members. While ombudsmen rarely receive the credit they deserve for their dedication behind the scenes, their work do not go unnoticed. Sailors, Marines and their families rely on these liaisons to disseminate information, resolve conflict, alleviate anxieties and clarify fact from heresy, especially during command deployments.

These women work tirelessly to keep families informed, aware and relaxed while loved ones are fighting for freedom.

As NAS Commanding Officer, Capt. Steve Black, stated during the evening’s address, the importance of an ombudsman’s efforts reach well beyond this base. Their mission has great implications that extend beyond the Navy and effect the security of this nation as a whole. Squadrons deployed overseas do not have to worry about the welfare of their families back home. They can go on to achieve the nation’s security goals undeterred and undistracted, thanks to the work of ombudsmen.

A big “Thank You” goes out to all NAS Ombudsmen. Their work never goes unnoticed, only under-recognized.

Become an
