The VAQ-132 Scorpions show off a freshly-painted 2010 Battle “E” on one of their EA-18G Growlers while deployed to Iraq.

In recognition of their sustained superior performance, the Electronic Attack Squadron 132 (VAQ-132) “Scorpions” were awarded the coveted Battle Efficiency (“E”) for 2010.

Throughout the year, the Scorpions seized every opportunity to train to and develop tactics, techniques and procedures as the inaugural EA-18G Growler squadron.

In March, VAQ-132 was the first fleet squadron to launch an Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile and High-speed Anti Radiation Missile from the EA-18G platform.

The squadron proved its mettle during the Commander, Electronic Attack Wing’s Conventional Weapon Technical Proficiency Inspection, during which they scored 167 out of a possible 170 points.

Additionally, Scorpion maintainers performed exceptionally well during the Commander, Naval Air Forces, Aviation Maintenance Inspection, with 41 of 41 programs graded “on-track.”

During the 12-month period, VAQ-132 participated in three large force exercises and seven squadron detachments in preparation for a deployment in support of Operation New Dawn.

Throughout, the Scorpions have consistently focused on safety. The squadron was proud to announce zero mishaps throughout the year, continuing a 40-year, and 65,618 flight hour, mishap-free history.

In early November, VAQ-132 left NAS Whidbey Island for Iraq where they are providing critical electronic attack in support of Operation New Dawn. The Scorpions are filling a critical role, protecting U.S. and Iraqi ground forces and ensuring the establishment of a free Iraq.

VAQ-132 continues to excel while introducing the enhanced capability of the Growler to the joint forces.

Despite the challenges that come with transitioning to a new platform and deploying less than a year later, the squadron has remained cohesive, efficient and professional on all levels. The Scorpions look forward to the challenges of 2011.
