Shadowhawks return from Al Asad

Following a two-week detachment to Al Asad Air Base, Iraq Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 141 returned to its normal home aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71).
During the detachment the Shadowhawks proved their worth completing 37 sorties and 165 flight hours with two jets. The detachment was a difficult undertaking that split the squadron between ship and shore.
Just as the Shadowhawks were returning to a normal shipboard operational flow, it was determined that their presence was once again desired in Al Asad.
With the need for Prowler support on the rise, the Shadowhawks once again split the squadron to support operations from the carrier and shore. The Shadowhawks immediately returned the original group of 50 maintainers, along with two jets and 13 aviators.
VAQ-141 is now once again operating in conjunction with the VMAQ-1 Banshees out of Al Asad. The squadrons are able to provide mutual support and keep Prowlers in the air to cover increasing requirements. The Banshees are pleased to have VAQ-141 on station to help shoulder some of the burdens on aircrew and maintainers.
The length of stay for the Shadowhawks has as of yet to be determined, but everyone is settling into their second home away from home.
Despite the difficulties of the transition, the Shadowhawks are once again taking the fight to anti-Iraqi forces. Maintainers, both ashore and on the carrier, are proud to directly support their military brothers and sisters in Iraq.
