Something for everyone at July 4 celebration

If you like pancakes, fireworks, Hula Hoops, jalapeno peppers, sack races and a parade reminiscent of the good old
days in America, don’t miss a minute Oak Harbor’s annual July 4th celebration today.
A special invitation goes out to NAS Whidbey Island military personnel and their families. Start your day with a pancake
breakfast at 9 a.m. at the YMCA on Pioneer Way, sponsored by the Oak Harbor Rotary Club.
The sound of thunder will come from NAS Whidbey aircraft flying over downtown as the parade kicks off at 11 a.m.
on Pioneer Way, sponsored by Koetje Agency and Travelers Insurance.
Look for several military leaders to walk alongside their civilian counterparts.
Vendors showing arts and craft and food booths will open at 1 p.m. at Windjammer Park. Head to the gazebo and try
your skill with an egg toss at 2 p.m.; pie-eating contest, 3 p.m.; sack races, 4 p.m.; jalapeno eating contest, 5 p.m.;
and Hula-Hoop contest, 6 p.m.
A fireworks celebration starts at 10 p.m. in Windjammer Park.
On July 5, Comcast invites the public to return to Windjammer Park to watch “A Night at the Museum” on their outdoor
cinema screen. It’s free, so grab the kids, a date or a friend and bring a blanket to enjoy this cinema experience at the
waters’ edge. Movie begins at dusk.
