Wizards reap added benefits by re-enlisting in Afghanistan.

VAQ-133 held a ceremony to re-enlist 10 dedicated Sailors on Dec. 1.

While deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, these Wizards took advantage of their tax-free status in a combat zone to maximize Selective Re-enlistment Bonuses (SRBs) for a combined total of $145,167.38.

At a re-enlistment ceremony on the flight line in front of aircraft 530, Cmdr. Charles Gibson, VAQ-133 Commanding Officer, re-enlisted AO2 Tucker L. Alexander, IT2(AW) Richard NMN Gonzalez, AM2 Shawn N. Tolman, AM3 JoelPatrick F. Basa, AO3 Larry G. Floyd II, AO3 Adam R. King, AT3 Myron D. Reed II, AM3 Jordan M. Rose, AM3 Anthony M. Ward and AM3 Christopher W. Wycoff.

The re-enlistments were the result of months of work by the Command Career Counselor, PN1(AW) Valerie Matazzoni.

“This is the best part of my job,” Matazzoni said.  “Not only do our Sailors receive bonuses, but the Navy gets to keep its best and brightest.

“I love my job. When the Navy said they would give me a bonus to re-enlist for six years, I didn’t have to think about it too long.”

Gibson also took the opportunity to promote Lt.j.g. Jeffrey Strawn to Lieutenant.

The Wizards got back to work right after the re-enlistment ceremony, launching combat sorties in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
