Hannah Barnes and Marion Laraby are presented with awards from Cynthia Fletcher, Youth and School Age Care Program manager. Their recipes were published in the Boys and Girls Club of America “Just Add Family” cookbook.

The Youth Activities Center hosted an award presentation June 9 to present copies of the new Boys and Girls Club
of America “Just Add Family” Cookbook to Hannah Barnes and Marion Laraby. The girls submitted recipes that were
accepted for publication in the worldwide cooking reference.
Clubs around the world received requests for children to send in favorite recipes that brought their family together.
NAS Whidbey Island’s School Age Care program, a BGCA member affiliate organization, was excited to hear that two
youth were selected for this proud recognition.
Marion chose to submit her recipe for Oreo Brownies. This is a very special recipe for Marion, who says “It’s special time
spent with my mom.” They decided to make brownies and developed this recipe. “It was so good and I drank a lot of milk
with it,” said Marion, who is the daughter of AME1 Diane Hawkinson of VQ-1.
Hannah contributed her special family recipe for Candy Cake. Her parents are ATC Trent Barnes, assigned to CNATTU, and
Jennifer Barnes. Hannah says, “We love this dish and make it every year as a family.”
School Age Care member recipes were submitted to the contest by staff members Angela Braidic and Rebecca George. They
are quite proud of the girls’ accomplishments.
