Wizards awarded Battle ‘E’

The Wizards of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 133 has been awarded the Battle Efficiency (E) award. This is VAQ-133s fifth Battle E since it’s resurrection in 1996 and the first for many of the squadron’s Sailors.

“My units have been passed over many times for this award,” said Yeoman 3rd Class (SW) Sean Peppler.  “Now that we finally have it, I’m very excited.”

The Wizards earned the award by flawlessly integrating eight squadron inspections, three large force exercises and a High Speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM) shot detachment into a compressed Fleet Readiness Training Program cycle.

They finished the year with a successful combat deployment to Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. The squadron flew combat missions supporting troops to protect lives on the ground. Just as important, the squadron executed operations safely, reaching its 11 year Class “A” Mishap Free Milestone in July.

In light of all of these accomplishments, many are not surprised that the Wizards received the coveted award.

“That’s what happens when you’re on the tip of the spear”, said Lt.j.g. Adam Lysene. “These Sailors are working hard everyday, not for awards, but because that’s what the job requires. It’s nice to let them know that their professionalism has been noticed.”

“The squadron’s sortie completion ratio was 98.9 percent. Only two flights were missed in six months. That’s very impressive,” said Commodore Brad Russell, commander of the Electronic Attack Wing. “This squadron performed excellently, under a condensed turn-around schedule and did it safely. That’s how you know they did it right, when they’ve done it safely.”
