Wizards shine during inspection

Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 133s Aviation Ordnancemen recently completed their Conventional Weapons
Technical Proficiency Inspection.
Administered by the Electronic Attack Wing, Pacific Fleet, the inspection is five days long. It began in early June
with three days of weapons loading refresher training, conducted at the Electronic Attack Weapons School,
followed by a written exam and a day of practical tests.
These inspections are an extensive review of the loading procedures for the EA-6B’s armament, including the
chaff and flares in the AN/ALE-39 Countermeasures Dispensing System, as well as the AGM-88 High Speed Anti-Radiation Missile.
“It was a little different when we had the A-6,” explained Senior Chief Aviation Ordnanceman (AW) Brent McDonald.
The Intruder had such an extensive inspection that it required two jets and one spare. Testing also went beyond
the enlisted troops, to include weaponeering tests for the aircrew.
Just three days after completing the inspection, the command recognized the shop’s crew leader Aviation Ordnanceman
2nd Class (AW) Donald Bowles with the Navy Achievement Medal for leading his crew during the preparation and inspection.
With the inspection over, the shop now focuses on implementing what they have learned on the battlefield. All Wizards
understand how the Ordnance Shop’s hard work will pay off in the future.
“I’m pretty proud of those guys,” said Chief Warrant Officer Wayne Patton, “Train as you fight, fight as you train.” With
another deployment looming on the horizon, they’ll do just that.
