The Wizards of Electronic Attack Squadron 133 have a new feather in their caps. While their past awards, such as the
Air Force Meritorious Unit Award and the Navy’s Battle ‘E’ recognized the collective hard work of the entire squadron,
this one belongs solely to its Maintenance department.
During the recent Electronic Attack Ball, the Commander, Electronic Attack Wing, U.S. Pacific Fleet recognized the Wizard
Maintenance Department’s commitment to excellence with the coveted Golden Wrench Award for Prowler Maintenance
Department of the Year.
During the previous year, the Wizard’s Maintenance Department impressively supported operations in Operation Enduring
Freedom, with a 98.9 percent combat sortie completion rate over 179 combat fly-days. Following their successful deployment,
the Wizards continued their high operations tempo by enabling a short-notice TRANSPAC ferry of two non-squadron aircraft
to forward deployed naval forces in Atsugi, Japan. They then supported flight operations for the Electronic Attack Weapon School
during its detachment to NAS Fallon, Nev., for its new cadre of students.
While supporting the greater Prowler community, the department flawlessly groomed its own jets, achieving a 100 percent sortie
completion rate for both of the squadron’s FRTP training detachments.
“I’m so proud of our guys, from our senior enlisted leadership all the way down to our newest airman, I could just burst,” said Lt.
Cmdr Peter Fey, Wizard Maintenance Officer.
When asked about the award, Wizards Plane Captain, Aviation Machinist Mate Airman Dustin Stacy said he appreciated the recognition
and it was well deserved. Such comments meant a lot to the Wizard Maintainers, but Wizard leadership had another small surprise
for them.
A few weeks after the award was presented, Wizards leadership presented a small token of appreciation to all of their enlisted Sailors.
Devised by Lt. Cmdr. Rene Abadesco, Wizard’s maintenance material control officer, the Wizards ready room sponsored a small
“Burger Burn.” “Our guys deserve it,” Abadesco said.
